7 Days Imperial Cities and Sahara Desert Tour from Casablanca

This 7-day Morocco tour takes you from Casablanca to the country’s imperial cities, scenic coastal towns, and the Sahara Desert. Starting in Casablanca, you’ll visit the Hassan II Mosque before exploring Rabat’s Oudaya Kasbah and Hassan Tower. Traveling along the Atlantic coast, you’ll discover the artistic city of Asilah and the blue-washed streets of Chefchaouen. In Fes, explore the medieval Medina, Al Karaouine University, tanneries, and panoramic views over the city.

The journey continues through the Middle and High Atlas Mountains, stopping at the cedar forests of Azrou, the Ziz Valley, Erfoud, and Rissani, before arriving in Merzouga for a camel trek and overnight in the Sahara Desert. You’ll witness the sunrise over the dunes, visit Todra and Dades Gorges, explore the Rose Valley, and stop at historic kasbahs along the way. The tour concludes in Marrakech with visits to Jemaa El Fna, Koutoubia Mosque, Bahia Palace, and Majorelle Gardens before returning to Casablanca for departure.

Itinerary

DAY 1 : Casablanca – Rabat

Upon arrival at Casablanca airport, we will welcome you and transfer you to Casablanca, followed by a drive to Rabat. In Casablanca, you’ll visit the magnificent Hassan II Mosque, the largest mosque outside Mecca. Continuing to Morocco’s capital, Rabat, you’ll explore the Hassan Tower and stroll through the historic Oudaya Kasbah. Overnight accommodation will be at a riad in the heart of the Medina.

After breakfast, we’ll journey to Chefchaouen via the coastal city of Asilah. In Asilah, enjoy exploring the Medina adorned with murals by international artists and visit the Skalla fortress for stunning views of the city and ocean. Time permitting, we’ll drive through Tangier before continuing through the foothills of the Rif Mountains to reach the enchanting blue city of Chefchaouen.

After breakfast, we’ll head to Fes, Morocco’s spiritual heart. Spend the morning wandering the Medina’s narrow alleys and visiting key sites such as Al Karaouine Mosque and University, Madrasa Bouanania, the Tanneries, and the Najjarine fountain. After lunch, we’ll drive outside the Medina to see the Royal Palace gate, stroll through the Jewish quarter (Mellah), and visit a pottery cooperative. End the day with panoramic views from a fortress overlooking the city.

Following breakfast, we’ll travel southeast toward Merzouga, passing Ifrane (“the Switzerland of Morocco”), the cedar forests of Azrou, and Midelt for lunch. Continue through the scenic Ziz Valley, Erfoud, and Rissani before arriving in Merzouga. Here, embark on a camel trek into the Erg Chebbi dunes to reach your desert camp. Enjoy a sunset over the dunes, a traditional dinner around a campfire, and an overnight stay in Berber tents equipped with flush toilets.

Start early to catch a breathtaking sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes, then return to Merzouga. After breakfast, depart for the Dades Valley via Todra Gorge, the highest and narrowest gorge in Morocco. Following lunch, enjoy an optional hike through local fields, visit a traditional mud village, and interact with the locals. Continue through the Dades Valley, admiring the unique rock formations known as “monkey toes” and the impressive sand castles. Overnight at a hotel overlooking the valley.

After breakfast, drive through the Dades Valley along the “Route of a Thousand Kasbahs,” stopping at Kalaa Mgouna, the “Rose City,” to explore and purchase rose products. Continue to Skoura and Bird’s Valley, visiting the historic Kasbah Ameridil. Then travel to Marrakech, checking into your riad, and in the evening, explore Jemaa El Fna square, enjoying street performances by magicians, storytellers, and musicians. Overnight in Marrakech.

After breakfast, enjoy a guided tour of Marrakech, including Jemaa El Fna, Koutoubia Mosque, Saadian Tombs, Bahia Palace, and Majorelle Gardens, along with a short visit to the new city and Koutoubia Tower. In the evening, transfer to Casablanca airport for your departure, concluding your tour.
