5 Days Sahara Desert Adventure from Marrakech

Begin your journey from Marrakech, crossing the High Atlas Mountains via Tizi n’Tichka to reach the iconic Ait Benhaddou village, then continue through Ouarzazate and the palm groves of Skoura to spend the night in Dades Valley.

On day two, explore Berber villages en route to Todra Gorge for a trek along its impressive 300-meter-high canyons, then continue to Merzouga and stay in a local riad. Day three is dedicated to discovering the Merzouga dunes, Gnaoua village, MIFISS mines, and desert plains, followed by a camel ride at sunset to a Berber desert camp. On day four, watch the sunrise over the dunes, visit Rissani and the Mausoleum of Moulay Ali Cherif, then drive through the Draa Valley to Ouarzazate for overnight. On the final day, return to Marrakech via Telouet village and Kasbah El Glaoui, crossing the High Atlas Mountains.

Itinerary

DAY 1 : Marrakech – Ait Benhaddou – Ouarzazate – Dades Valley

Your journey begins in Marrakech in the morning, crossing the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka pass (2,260m) to reach the village of Ait Benhaddou, a beautiful fortified ksar renowned for its historic Kasbahs. This iconic site has been the backdrop for numerous films. After lunch, continue through Ouarzazate, the palm groves of Skoura, and into Dades Valley, where you will spend your first night.

DAY 2 : Dades Valley – Todra Gorge – Merzouga

After breakfast, drive through colorful Berber villages en route to Tineghir and its lush palm groves. Explore the Todra Gorge with a trek along the impressive 300-meter-high canyons, a favorite spot for mountain climbers. In the afternoon, continue to the Erg Chebbi dunes in Merzouga, where you will stay overnight in a local riad.

DAY 3 : Merzouga Sightseeing and Camel Ride

Following breakfast, explore the Merzouga dunes, the Gnaoua village, MIFISS mines, and the desert plains, meeting local Berber nomads along the way. In the afternoon, enjoy a 1.5-hour camel ride at sunset to reach a desert camp oasis. Spend the night in a bivouac under traditional nomadic tents amidst the stunning Sahara dunes.

DAY 4 : Merzouga – Draa Valley – Ouarzazate

Wake early to watch the sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes, then return by camel to your hotel for breakfast and a shower. Depart for Rissani to explore the Mausoleum of Moulay Ali Cherif and the local palm groves. After lunch in Nkoub, continue through the scenic Draa Valley to Ouarzazate, where you will enjoy dinner and an overnight stay at a hotel.

DAY 5 : Ouarzazate – Telouet – High Atlas Mountains – Marrakech

After breakfast, journey back to Marrakech with a stop at the traditional Berber village of Telouet to visit Kasbah El Glaoui. Continue your drive across the High Atlas Mountains, concluding your unforgettable Sahara Desert adventure in Marrakech.
