Morocco Itinerary: 5 Days from Marrakech to Merzouga

Day 1: Marrakech – High Atlas Mountains – Telouat Kasbah – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate (Approx. 4 hours drive)

Your 5 day desert tour from Marrakech begins with an early pickup from your accommodation or Marrakech airport. We drive through the spectacular High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, stopping along the way to enjoy panoramic views of traditional Berber villages and dramatic mountain landscapes.

We continue to visit the famous Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Morocco’s most iconic fortified villages. This historic kasbah has been featured in international films such as Gladiator, Alexander, The Mummy, and the TV series Game of Thrones.

Later, we drive to Ouarzazate, known as “The Gate of the Desert”. Dinner and overnight stay in a hotel.


Day 2: Ouarzazate – Agdz – Draa Valley – Nkob – Merzouga Desert – Camel Trekking – Luxury Camp (Approx. 6 hours drive)

After breakfast, we explore Ouarzazate by visiting the famous Atlas Studios, where many international movies were filmed, followed by the historic Taourirt Kasbah.

We then depart toward Agdz and join the stunning Draa Valley, the longest river valley in Morocco. Along the route, we stop to admire palm groves, ancient kasbahs, and authentic Berber villages. Free time for lunch in Nkob or Alnif.

In the afternoon, we continue toward Merzouga via Rissani. Upon reaching the Erg Chebbi sand dunes, you switch to camels for an unforgettable trek across the Sahara. Stop atop a high dune to witness a magical desert sunset.

Arrive at your luxury desert camp, combining traditional nomad tents with modern comfort. Enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner, Berber drum music, and dancing around the campfire under a sky filled with stars. Overnight in the desert camp.


Day 3: Merzouga Region Exploration – Nomads – Khamlia – Merzouga Lake – Erg Chebbi – Palm Grove (Approx. 2 hours drive)

Wake up early to admire the unforgettable sunrise over the Sahara dunes. After breakfast, return by camel to Merzouga, where your driver awaits.

Today is dedicated to exploring the Merzouga region. You will discover diverse landscapes, including dunes, wild lakes, fossil areas, mines, and lush oases.

Begin with an off-road drive to visit an ancient eyeliner mine, then visit local nomads in their traditional woven tents. Learn about their lifestyle while enjoying a cup of Berber tea.

Continue to Khamlia village to experience authentic Gnaoua music and dance. The village inhabitants originate from sub-Saharan countries such as Mali, Niger, and Sudan. Free time for lunch in a local restaurant.

In the afternoon, stroll through a palm grove and visit the wild lake of Merzouga, also known as Flamingos Lake. Dinner and overnight stay in a hotel.


Day 4: Merzouga – Rissani – Erfoud – Todra Gorges – Dades Valley (Approx. 5 hours drive)

After breakfast, we leave the desert and head to Rissani, the ancient capital of Tafilalet and an important trading center. Visit its lively souk, especially active on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays.

Continue to Erfoud, where you visit a workshop specializing in fossilized marble. Then drive through the palm groves of Touroug and Tinjdad toward the impressive Todra Gorges.

The Todra River has carved a dramatic canyon with towering red cliffs, making it a paradise for rock climbers. Free time to walk through the gorges and enjoy lunch.

In the afternoon, we drive to the Dades Valley via Boumalne Dades, stopping at the famous Monkey Fingers rock formations and scenic viewpoints overlooking the valley. Dinner and overnight stay in a hotel.


Day 5: Dades Valley – Rose Valley – Skoura Palm Grove – Amridil Kasbah – High Atlas – Marrakech (Approx. 6 hours drive)

On the final day of your 5 day Morocco desert tour, we drive to Kalaa Magouna to explore the Rose Valley. Each May, the Rose Festival celebrates local rose products such as perfumes, rose water, oils, and cosmetics.

Continue through Skoura’s palm groves to visit the historic Amridil Kasbah, one of the best-preserved kasbahs in the region.

After lunch in Ouarzazate, we drive back to Marrakech via the High Atlas Mountains and the Tizi n’Tichka Pass. Drop-off at your accommodation or Marrakech airport. End of the 5 days tour from Marrakech to Merzouga Desert.
