Itinerary: 4 Days Marrakech to Fes Desert Tour

Day 1: Marrakech – High Atlas Mountains – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate – Rose Valley – Boumalne Dades (Approx. 6 hours drive)

Your 4 days Marrakech to Fes desert tour begins with an early pick-up from your accommodation or Marrakech airport. We drive through the spectacular High Atlas Mountains via the scenic Tizi n’Tichka Pass, stopping along the way to enjoy panoramic views.

Next, we visit the iconic Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Morocco’s most famous fortified villages. This historic kasbah has appeared in numerous films such as Gladiator, Alexander, The Mummy, and the TV series Game of Thrones.

We then continue to Ouarzazate, known as “The Gate of the Desert”, where you may visit the Atlas Film Studios. Afterward, we drive through the beautiful Rose Valley, famous for its annual Rose Festival held every May, showcasing local rose-based products.

In the evening, we arrive in Boumalne Dades. Dinner and overnight in a hotel or traditional riad.


Day 2: Boumalne Dades – Todra Gorges – Erfoud – Merzouga Sahara (Approx. 5 hours drive)

After breakfast, enjoy the stunning scenery of the Dades Gorges before continuing to the impressive Todra Gorges. Here, the Todra River has carved a dramatic canyon with towering red cliffs. Free time is provided to explore the gorges and enjoy lunch.

In the afternoon, we drive toward Merzouga, passing through Erfoud, known for its fossil workshops. Upon arrival at the edge of the Sahara Desert, you will switch to camels and begin your trek across the dunes.

Enjoy a magical sunset over the Erg Chebbi dunes before continuing to your luxury desert camp. The evening includes a traditional Moroccan dinner, Berber drum music, and dancing around the campfire under a vast starry sky. Overnight in the camp.


Day 3: Merzouga Region – Nomads – Khamlia – Merzouga Lake – Erg Chebbi – Palm Grove (Approx. 2 hours drive)

Wake up early to admire a breathtaking sunrise in the Sahara Desert. After breakfast, ride camels back to Merzouga village, where your driver awaits.

Today is dedicated to exploring the Merzouga region, an area rich in natural and cultural diversity. We begin with an off-road drive to visit an ancient eyeliner mine, followed by a visit to local nomadic families living in traditional woven tents, where you will enjoy Berber tea and learn about their lifestyle.

Next, we visit Khamlia village, famous for its spiritual Gnaoua music and dances. The village inhabitants originate from sub-Saharan countries such as Mali, Niger, and Sudan. Free time for lunch in a local restaurant.

In the afternoon, enjoy a walk through a palm grove and visit the Merzouga wild lake, also known as Flamingos Lake. Dinner and overnight in a hotel in Merzouga.


Day 4: Merzouga – Rissani – Erfoud – Midelt – Cedars Forest – Ifrane – Fes (Approx. 7 hours drive)

On the final day of your 4 days Marrakech to Fes desert tour, we leave the desert and head to Rissani, the ancient capital of Tafilalet and an important trading center. Its traditional souk is especially lively on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays.

We then continue to Erfoud to visit a fossilized marble workshop, before driving along the Ziz Valley with a stop for panoramic views. Lunch break in Midelt.

In the afternoon, we visit the cedar forests, home to the Barbary macaques. Our journey continues to Ifrane, known for its alpine-style architecture, cool climate, and snowy winters, earning it the nickname “Switzerland of Morocco”.

Finally, we arrive in Fes, where you will be dropped off at your accommodation or the airport. End of the tour.
