Your 3 days tour to Merzouga desert begins with an early pickup from your accommodation or the airport in Marrakech. We drive through the impressive High Atlas Mountains, crossing the scenic Tizi n’Tichka Pass, with several stops for panoramic views.
We then visit the famous Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a fortified village classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This historic kasbah has featured in many international films, including Gladiator, Alexander, and The Mummy, as well as TV series such as Game of Thrones.
Continuing to Ouarzazate, known as “The Gate of the Desert”, you will have free time for lunch. Afterward, we travel through the palm groves of Skoura and the scenic Rose Valley. In the late afternoon, we arrive in Boumalne Dades, where you will spend the night in a comfortable hotel or riad.
After breakfast, we explore the Dades Valley, stopping at viewpoints overlooking the impressive Dades Gorges. We then continue to the spectacular Todra Gorges, where the Todra River has carved a dramatic canyon with towering red cliffs. Enjoy free time to walk through the gorges and admire the scenery.
We proceed through the palm groves of Touroug and Tinjdad, with a lunch stop along the way. In the afternoon, we reach the magnificent Merzouga Sahara Desert.
Here, you will switch to camels and begin an unforgettable camel trekking experience across the dunes. Stop on a high dune to admire the magical Sahara sunset, then continue to your luxury desert camp. Enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner, Berber drum music, and dancing around the campfire under a vast sky filled with stars. Overnight in the camp.
Wake up early to witness a stunning sunrise over the Sahara dunes. After a warm Moroccan breakfast, return by camel or 4×4 to Merzouga, where your driver will be waiting.
We continue to Rissani, famous for its traditional and lively souk. Then we drive toward Alnif and follow the scenic Draa Valley all the way to Ouarzazate.
From Ouarzazate, we cross the Tizi n’Tichka Pass through the Anti-Atlas and High Atlas Mountains before arriving back in Marrakech. Drop-off at your accommodation marks the end of your 3 days Merzouga desert tour from Marrakech.
If the long 9-hour drive back to Marrakech feels too demanding, the tour can end at Errachidia Airport, located about 2 hours from Merzouga. From there, it is a 1-hour flight to Marrakech. The flight is not included. Airline: Ryanair (operates approximately 3 times per week).
